The Politecnico di Torino, founded in 1906 from the roots of the Technical School for Engineers created in 1859, has a long-standing tradition of leadership of polytechnic culture. It is one of the most important universities in Europe for engineering and architecture studies, strongly committed to collaboration with industry. It has an yearly budget of about €300 million and over 37,000 students enrolled in academic courses of different levels, Bachelor, Master of Science, PhD, Specializing Master Courses of I and II Levels (19% of them are international students).

The Department of Energy (DENERG) is the leading structure in the areas of energy and sustainable development, covering the fields of production, transport, distribution, conversion and use of energy. The main goal is to improve the existing technologies in the energy sector, to promote the innovation and to contribute to the rational and aware use of different energy resources. DENERG promotes, organizes and manages the basic and applied research, the technology transfer and business services in the field of energy resources and related conversion technologies, distribution and final use in the industrial, civil, transport and service sectors environments.

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano – Faculty of Engineering

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997. unibz has a strong international outlook, as testified by its multilingual courses (German, Italian, English and Ladin) and the high number of students and teaching staff from abroad. The university has five faculties, and a high percentage of lecturers (35 %) and students (17 %) come from abroad and they study, teach and do research in the fields of Economics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Education and Design. More than 4,000 students are registered to more than 30 undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. Teaching offer and research projects are linked to international and inter-regional networks and are committed to reaching top quality standards.

The new Faculty of Engineering established in 2023, develops teaching, research and third mission activities by combining skills in the fields of automation, artificial intelligence, information technology, electronics, energy, mechanics, manufacturing and sustainability. Teaching is supported by a cutting-edge laboratory infrastructure at the NOI TechPark, the science and technology park in South Tyrol, and evolves starting from the results of research itself. The Faculty makes use of a dense network of collaborations at local, national and international level, which allows teachers, researchers and students to develop research, teaching and learning activities together with various academic partners, large international companies, start-ups and local companies, as well as public administrations and services.

University of Trieste-Department of Engineering and Architecture

The University of Trieste has its origins in the Higher School of Commerce, founded in 1877, when the mercantile development of the city increased the demand for skills in commerce and navigation. Subsequent decrees transformed the School into a University. The Faculty of Engineering was established in 1942. The University of Trieste has a complete educational offering with bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, research doctorates, and specialization schools and has over 17,000 students.

The Department of Engineering and Architecture is the reference department of the University of Trieste for research and teaching activities in the energy field. It carries out activities relating to energy transition, energy saving and renewable energy with a focus on the civil and industrial sectors. The Department offers four bachelor’s degrees, eight master’s degrees and one single-cycle degree. The Department participates in several local and national research doctorates, with specific researches in the energy sector.
